Grant

Grant was a happy, healthy baby and the absolute light of our lives. Between the ages of eighteen and twenty-four months we noticed him withdrawing and becoming more isolated. He lost vocabulary, stopped communicating and perseverated on trains. At his two year check up we discussed our concerns with his pediatrician and she recommended a hearing test. When it was determined his hearing was within normal limits, Grant began speech therapy. From there he started occupational therapy and physical therapy as well as peer group socialization. Grant had ten-plus therapy appointments per week. When he turned three we added developmental preschool four mornings per week to the already hectic routine. He was officially diagnosed with autism at age four and the diagnosis was just a confirmation of what we already suspected. We continued with the intense therapy schedule and incorporated an extensive home program to compliment his current services.

Today Grant is an incredibly successful ten year old boy. He is in a main stream fourth grade classroom and has tested out of his IEP. He loves to play soccer, golf and is a budding runner. We feel he is the poster child for early intervention. Without the early and intense services he benefited from, he wouldn't be where he is today. The future is bright and the possibilities are endless for our boy!
